 ALBERTA HUNTING & FISHING NEWS
October Pronghorn Fencing

Antelope fencing is confirmed for October 6-7, 2012 on Raymond Pearson and J-J Ranches. There are 7 miles of fence to bring up to pronghorn friendly standards. We will be adding a bottom smooth wire at 18" on a three strand barbed wire fence and will be required to respace the three wires above so a fair amount of work will be involved. I'll have a half dozen sets of fencing pliers and some spare claw hammers there but if you have your own, please bring them. A carpenter's apron and gloves are also handy. The work sites are fairly remote so getting everyone to them will be a bit challenging but we should have a few ATVs for the job. Please come prepared to spend the entire day away from your vehicle. There is also two miles of page wire to tear down a roll up. We will be adding a single smooth wire at 18" once the page wire is down. Unfortunately, the three work sites are a bit spread out so it's going to be a bit of a logistical challenge.

There are very few facilities near the work sites so ensure you have sufficient fuel for your vehicle. There is a cardlock station in Foremost that accepts Mastercard and Visa. The closest campground and hotel is in Foremost and that's where most people will be staying. There are no restaurants nearby so please bring sufficient food and water for during the day. There are a couple restaurants in Foremost and the campground has water, power, showers and even some good trout fishing. You should make sure your tetanus shot is up to date as we are working with old rusted wire.

We will meet on the east side of the compressor station on Highway 501 and then Blair and I will take you to your respective work locations. The easiest way to get there is to head south on Highway 885 from Etzicom to Highway 501. Go east on 501 roughly 4 kilometres and you will see a fairly large compressor station on the south side. As you are heading east, you will cross the south end of Pawkowki Lake. The compressor station is not too far east of that. The GPS location of the meeting place is N 49 12.151 W111 02.236. You can't miss it. If everyone could be there by 9:30am it would be greatly appreciated. I'll be down there on Tuesday to run the wire and get everything organized but as cell reception is spotty, you may not be able to contact me after October 2 but if you leave a message I will be able to retrieve it.

If the weather holds, I'll be camping in Foremost so you should be able to track me down there as well on Friday evening, if not I'll likely grab a room at the hotel.

Your help is greatly appreciated on this project.
